So they say to have a special play-list to help you relax and stay focused on “birth” day and through all that lovely labor. Thought I would share whats filling mine for the big day…

Killing time…

We have basically a week to go. Need to stay relaxed. Need to be patient. OK. Sooooo someone explain how the frak you accomplish that? I’m getting totally ramped waiting for the big day, so to keep me from crawling out of my skin we spent the weekend doing a LOT of walking and park hopping. Ahhhh nature, I love the outdoors :)

The infamous “Hospital Bag”

26
Sep

No. I did not spring for a pre-packed hospital bag like this one. Fancy though huh? They will sell anything to pregnant people! I did however have to do some searching for the items I wanted and get my bag packed this weekend. The baby books say to have this little chore done a month ahead of your due date, but this was the one thing (ok two, I still don’t have my daycare worked out yet either) that I procrastinated on. I figured that the majority of first time babies come late so why rush.

Whats in my bag?

Surprisingly it seems like a lot. I’m traditionally a light packer. My paranoia of losing bags in airports led to a strict 2 carry on bags packing regime. Overnight, a few days, or a few weeks. If it doesn’t fit in carry on, it’s not coming with me. So after I piled in my comfy Pj’s. a shirt for labor (side note, if you want to feel more comfy in the hospital I read in a few places to wear your own clothes), some bathroom items and then what sunk the ship. Baby stuff.

She’s not even here yet and I ended up packing more for her than me! Will it be cold? Will it be warm? Will she be too big for the newborn stuff? My own diapers and wipes because no one is using those chemical infested name brand things on her. Maybe she won’t like the booted pj’s! OMG could packing for a newborn be more complicated!!!

I might need a bigger diaper bag….

Dr. Day Update

Ok folks, here is the latest. We are 10 days from show time (hopefully) and I’m looking good. The plumbing is prepping for lift-off. In Dr. speak I am 50% effaced <1cm dilated. So for those new to all this that basically means all the Braxton-Hicks contractions are definitely priming everything but we are still a ways away. At least some action is better than no action. Crossing my fingers for on time!

Birth preparation class…

Sep

We took the classic birth prep class offered by the hospital. LAME. Not only were we horrified by the casualness of their hospital agenda presentation of “normal interventions” but it was boring as watching paint dry. The only fun we had was when I’d had enough and questioned the teacher on the truth about cesarean and epidural statistics. (FYI your chance of ending up in a cesarean is vastly increased once you take an epidural, they aren’t “perfectly safe”)

On the other hand a friend of mine lent us this great birth prep DVD. Laugh and Learn was everything it says it would be. The hostess is very funny and her delivery of all the info is fun and entertaining while maintaining a rather objective and all around informed perspective. I will say her bias toward less intervention and a more natural experience is there, but she still presents all the options and information equally. To bad we wasted time on the class, the DVD was by far the better investment.

Survey Says…

Ok, not sure if these photos show it, but after waking up this morning feeling considerably “lower” in the belly region I’m thinking little Kahlan has dropped into position. Surveyed a few random people through the day and they generally agree… Houston the belly has dropped!

Raspberries!!!!

The daddy voice made a new game up today. I love play time with the daddy. The piano game was my favorite but this game is much more fun. The daddy makes loud funny vibratty sounds on the edge of my space, they make mommy giggle like crazy and she calls them “raspberries”, then I stretch as far as I can into the outer limits and try to catch the daddy. I miss a lot, but he usually comes back if I stay stretched out and pokes at my foot poke.

Mommy says she is drinking a lot of raspberry tea to help my space be stretchy and strong for the “big day”. I don’t think she is saying it right because those raspberries don’t make any noise and I definitely can’t find the daddy. *sigh* Words are so confusing…

In the ZONE!

So one little nugget you don’t really learn until your actually pregnant is this: Due dates are basically meaningless and your really pregnant for 10 months.

WHAT?

That’s right, 40 weeks is 10 months, not 9. Where did this 9 months idea even come from, like it’s not hard enough to maintain patience, then to wait and wait and find out your “goal” is really a few more weeks away. And that’s if the little bundle happens to come “on time”

So what then is the point of a due “date”? I think this should be changed to the due “zone”. We get fixated on a magic number a little spinning disk in the Dr.’s office has calculated for us, when in reality your baby is full term and ready to rock anywhere 2 weeks before to two weeks after your “due”.

Regardless, we are now officially “in the zone” for little Kahlan’s arrival. Today, tomorrow or four weeks from now, our event horizon is on her schedule  :)

Will we make it to October?

So I’m sure everyone starts to feel like the whole baby thing is just a matter of time toward the end. Don’t get me wrong, I really am not complaining, I know exactly how awesome I’ve had it this whole time. You can’t hope for better than this. No morning sickness, no fatigue, no anything really. Just me feeling pretty normal and a huge baby belly waiting out month after month. Well I think pregnancy finally caught up with me. I’m pooped. I’m to big and awkward to do what I want to anymore, I so hate asking for help with simple things (like socks), the heat is killin me and I’m tired of being to puffy to wear my wedding ring. Granted this has only developed in the last week or so. Not much to complain about, but thought I should have one little rant just for the record :)

“Deep Woof” in deep thought

What are all these strange little people things? Why are mommy and daddy fussing with such strange stuff. I smelled all the little things, rubbed my gummies on the softer ones and even took a nap in a pile of fluffy little blankies to double check I didn’t miss something. I don’t get it. Oh well, maybe if I lay here on the couch and stare at mommy while she folds all the little soft things she will give me attention. Ooooo or take me to the park. SQUIRREL!
