We are officially up and running! It’s been a long road getting to this point. I’ve spent, I don’t know how many, hours fusing glass, creating graphics and writing copy to get the site in shape. Now the last phase is complete and all that hard work has paid off.

You can now peruse and buy many of my glass pieces right online in our Etsy Store right in time for the Holidays! What better way to spread the love than giving unique handmade gifts. Not only that, but in the spirit of giving I am dedicating 20% of the proceeds (sales – materials, shipping & tax) of each pendant sale to local greyhound rescue. See our Pendants for Pooches page for details!

The pendants are finished, the display errected and Project Pendants for Pooches is officially launched! This is the first, of hopefully many, such displays to be put up in local animal rescue facilities. The display holds 10 small and 10 large pendants and includes the display insert explaining my vision for the program. Pendants sell at retail: $25 for small and $35 for large. 50% of the proceeds (sale price -materials/shipping) of each sale will be donated to the Long Beach Humane Society which is hosting this fundraiser display. That is roughly $10-$14 per pendant sold that goes straight to the animals!

If you are part of an animal rescue organization and would like to host a similar display, check out the Pendants for Pooches page for details or contact me for more information…

Both of these pendants were created as holiday gifts from 1″ by 1″ full fused glass blanks. I then used a Dremel rotary tool and a few new diamond bits I found at ACE hardware to carve out the designs revealing the backing color through the french vanilla cap. For a final touch I fire polished both pieces along with a slump I had going into the kiln. I like the effect and I think with a little practice I could increase the complexity of design for some magnificent pieces!

Once again the brain trust at Bullseye has brought an amazing artist in to demo and discuss unique works in glass. Carrie Iverson presented her beautiful images in print at the more than packed BE resource center this weekend which I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend. As someone who works in the printing industry I was extremely excited by Carrie’s litho background and her innovative techniques for utilizing simple xerox prints to transfer images. And as always, the artists who speak at BE seem to defy the modern stereotype of aloof gallery folk, never ceasing to amaze me with their openness and friendly demeanor. To see more of her amazing work please visit her site, and if she happens to teach a class or do additional demos here in PDX she is definitely not to be missed!

What had started as an attempt to maximize kiln shelf use, has now turned into a lovely side project I’m falling quit head over heels with. I started assembling little pendant sized pieces of part sheets as a way to utilize the edge of my shelf while working on larger pieces. I figured if they turned out neat they would be good reference tiles or make x-mas presents. This particular piece caught my fancy so I looked into necklace findings and ordered a few pieces to play with. After wearing this piece around for a few days it’s become clear… these pendants are AWESOME! The feedback has been more than I ever expected and to meet the growing demand I have plans to expand the pendants into a few lines of styles and am working on launching an e-com section to the parent site.

If your not lucky enough to be on my present list, but would really like to get yout hands on one of these unique little art pieces, keep an eye on the glass page of the main site for updates or drop me an e-mail kirstan@dkgraham.com. The pendants range from Large 1″x2″ to Small 1″x1″ on either a choker or chain. All findings are silver plated as well as the necklaces. Since I’m just starting out, pricing is negotiable, and if your interested in carrying a number of pieces in your own shop let me know and I’d be interested in working out a volume arrangement.
